I use mainly Windows and Linux, personally I would probably like a Mac over Windows, but my job basically requires me to use Windows. Windows XP isn't too bad compared to other versions of windows, but Mac is still more stable and less prone to viruses.
I do like Linux better than both Mac and Windows. It is free and you have ultimate control over how it works. For newbies, it might be a bit more difficult to figure out problems compared to a Mac or Windows. But, it also gets no viruses. There are many different versions of Linux.
One version of Linux I'd recommend is http://www.ubuntu.com/ - you can download it and make a "live cd" out of it so that you can just run it off of the CD rather than installing it on your computer. This will help you decide whether you like it or not before you install it. If you don't have a fast internet connection, you can even order the CD from the website for free (even the shipping is free).
Anyhow, I know your question was about Mac vs. Windows, but thought I'd throw in my 10 bits. ;)

Windows. Because a lot of software is for windows, plus I think Windows is more user friendly than Mac. I only tried Mac on my friend's computer once, and I cant get use to it. *or maybe because I am already too used to windows*

well it is really up to you, mac users usualy are very satisfied with stability and images. Where windows users are more satisfied with software you can get with for it.
I would perffer Mac over windows even tho i dont own one but sure i am using " linux " which mac is based on.
so go for mac i guess, it cant have any viruses or spyware "not reeally " and is user friendly...
go to mac store first and check out....then go to some pc store and check them out
