Led Zeppelin. It is hard to top a band that is credited as being one of the most inspirationable bands of our time. I'm sure if you ask Kurt Hammot who inspired him to play, Jimmy Page is on the list. Page was pounding it out when Hammot was only knee-high to a grasshopper. I'm sure he can still teach Kurt a thing or two.

paige is an icon for guitarists everywhere....have you ever heard anyone say kurt hammot was some great guitarist? if it was bass than metallica would have it when cliff burton was alive

i like both, but i lean towards, led zeppelin and jimmy page is my guitarist

Hammett is more contemporary... but Page was far more inventive in terms of his playing and bringing Eastern influences to rock.
I actually prefer Hetfield to Hammett. His playing has that raw edge that is associated with metal.

They're both equally talented guitarists who play a different style of guitarist so it's really hard to say who I like better.
