I have a couple of weeks off from work in january 2007 and 'm planning on visiting either Central or Eastern Europe... I know it will be cold, but, do you have any suggestions on which are the best to visit during this time of year?

For my money,I,d fly to vienna(austria)Beautiful city with the alps close-by.By train to munich(germany)the bavarian alps are marvellous. On by train agian to switzerland, now this really is a winter wonderland.Don't think two weeks is enough to cover all the worthwhile sights,However if you follow this itinery, you'll be enrapted by the one you prefer

It depends on what you're into. I like Budapest (the capital of Hungary) very much. There's also loads to do in Croatia, where I live. If you eventually decide to come here, feel free to contact me, and I'll do my best to inform you on anything you chose. There's the Adriatic Sea also if you wish to escape the cold winter - the average January temperature there is around 10 Celsius degrees.

If you're into skiing, Austria is full of great places, but I'm not sure if it's central or even western Europe.. In the north Italy there are also some great skiing spots.

I wouldn't suggest the very Eastern Europe 'cause you'll end up disappointed.

Prague in the Czech Republic is great at this time of year. It is really cold but the whole city is even more beautiful in the snow. They have holiday festivals and activities going on and its just great to visit in the winter.

If you like winter sports come in Romania (Poiana Brasov, Sinaia, Predeal, Busteni) and you'll spend a wonderful vacation in a great location. If you want to feel the summer, go in Greece or in Malta. Anyway, I wish you a happy vacation.

I'd suggest Prague! I was born there, and it is quite beautiful. If you want to go to more than one country other than Czech Republic (as suggested), then try Austria (Vienna, Innisbruck or something), Republic of Slovakia (try Bratislava -- not sure of spelling).
