The answer is the tilt of the sun. The closer the hemesphere is to the sun it is summer. The further the hemesphere is from the sun it is winter.

During summer,ur part of the world is facing the sun so it is hot.
During winter,ur part of the world is not receiving as much light and heat and therefore, it is cold.

the reason is because (if your in the northern hemisphere) when it is summer the northern hemisphere the northern hemisphere is pointing toward the sun, in winter, it is just the opposite.
