Depending on the year, make and modle of your car, anywhere from $50 to $200 retail for the part. You could replace irt with a used one for about $20 if you have a way to get your car up on ramps, and have a descent set of tools and a dry place to work on it if you are short on cash. If you want to have a new one installed call "Meineky or Midas". They are listed in your phone book and both have good reputations.

I usually do it myself with clamps and other stuff. Got to keep the clamps tight though. Well I know the small companies not Midas or whatever are cheap and will give you a good deal. Go to them small shops late at night when its slow. When you go in there act like you know what you want and know what you are talking about. Just tell them replace the muffler but to check the rest of the exhuast too. If there is something else that is wrong have him show you what the problem is. Dont go into any shop with out acting smart because even Midas will cheat you into buying anything with out it even being bad.

This is my opinion and experience of two major companies: Speedy Muffler has always been fair with me. On the other hand, Midas has been expensive with me. So I don';t go there anymore. There are many muffler shops. Ask around.

if it's just replacing a stock muffler, just look in the paper for a midas or something. Should be 50 bucks or less for the muffler, 30ish to install

It should cost no more than $100.00. This is any easy job. Check around various shops. Some will try to charge you several hundred dollars that is three to four times their costs including labor. I went to Midas and found they wanted three times what the independent shop down the street did, and the latter did a fine job.

These national chain shops are a ripoff. They will almost invariably find something else that "needs replacing". Go to an independent shop. Saves bean$, time and trouble. Chain shops do not pay their workers enough to attract top-notch help. Independents depend on their reputation for a living.

The best way to find a reputable shop is to check with the bureau of automotive repair or the better business bureau.

it really depends on the car, because different mufflers cost different amounts. and where you are getting it done, what their labor rate is. usually not more than 200 in CT
