how often do you spank your kids?

I believe in spanking kids when they misbehave and disrespect you. I remember one time as a kid, i through a tantrum and through myself on teh floor. My dad picked me up by my belt, spanked my butt a couple times and told me "never again." And I NEVER through myself on the floor again. Now, how often do you spank your kids? If you don't agree with spanking, why not? give me your opinions.

oh, and there was one time, my dad asked me if i'd rather have a spanking or an alternative punishment. Obviously i chose the alternate. He made me kneal on rice for an hour, the lenght of one of my classes i didn't do well in, and let me tell you, the first 5-10 minutes are okay, the last 40-50 are torture. But i learned my lessons with spanking and alternatives. What do you think? If you're one of those that jsut "talks to their kids" tell me how often that has worked for you.

When it is blatant and willful disobedience,

Like when my son hit my wife, because he did not get his way.

Talking works for the minor infractions like not picking up after themselves, or other seemingly unimportant things.

I also have the pleasure of being able to recreate "THE LOOK" my father used to give to us when my brother and were getting out of line.

I spank when they put themselves in danger, like running in the road or touching the stove. For lesser things, they get a time out or lose privileges.

My dad did the belt thing too, and it worked for me, but I think when you use weapons in punishment, you're crossing the line between being right and being wrong. Using your hand is best.

That rice thing is hilarious! My mom used that one once.

it shouldn't be something that is done all the time, but it should be known to the child that it is an option that is on the table! the problem with a lot of kids today is that they know the threat of a spanking is not there. back in the day, kids were bad, but not like this! these kids have no fear.

I make sure it is only something that they need to learn is wrong. Any other time is unacceptable to me. It is only a form of discipline to show authority when not listening or needing to learn. Never in a violent, hurtful way, I could not bring myself to do bad bodily harm on purpose.

Never. A timeout works just as well and is non-violent.

i spank my kids all the time, even when they are good. sometimes when they proudly bring home a test they got an A on, i reward them with a swift kick in the face. it keeps them on their toes, otherwise they go wild on you. besides, pride is a sin.
