my shipmate is a former firefighter. Now she jumps out of helicopters to save people. There are tons of firefighters that are females. However you must always keep in mind that females are NOT welcome at all firehouses due to lack of seperate berthing area.
The firehouses were build for the most part as an all male place and do not build seperate rooms or heads for the females and till this day a lot remain like that.

Do women firefighters have to be a physically strong as male ones? And if not, then do they have a different role on the team? I cannot honestly see most fit women being as physically strong as most fit men. However we like to have equal opportunities, a man is physically stronger than a woman, and as such, all else been equal, if I needed carrying out of a burning building, I would be happier if a male firefighter turned up than a female one, as I doubt a female could carry me. That been said, I suspect the job involves far, far more than brute strength and carrying women out of burning buildings, so I suspect there certainly is a place for female firefighters. But when it comes to strength related activities, a male firefighter is invariably going to be superior.

Yes. We can have the same jobs as men---except for, say, King. And that's only a difference of title. There just aren't whole lot of female firefighters.

My sister is a firefighter. It is hard training. She spent lots of time at the gym. She saved a baby from a burning building. So..., yes women can be great firefighters!

Yes, especially since the 80's when the word was changed from firemen to firefighters and I happen to know several female firefighters. And also police officers and mail carriers. Can you believe some of us grew up hearing firemen, mailmen and policemen? It's true, I was there. Peace.

No Affirmative Action (for females) in the FD. The chicks can't hack the physical requirements.

They "can", but most people want a 6'5, 260 lb guy carrying them out of a burning building, not some girl. When your life's on the line, PC goes out the door.
