Well many reasons
1. Logical answer -A boat signifies 'saving' people and taking them to shore safely and thats what women do. By thier unlimited compassion and bonding
2. Emo Answer - A women is natures gift to mankind and she bears all the load and pains in life to carry her home and family. She undegoes all the dreadful journey's t0 ensure the safety of her family
3. Crude answer - They are female coz you can climb up on them and ride them
4. Religious answer - Bible 6.0.654.76 - Women was created by God to to cross the Sea of fire. God made a mother to guide her child, a sister to guide her brother, a wife to stand by her husband and a daugther to give so much affection.
5. Vulger answer - Becuase a boats shape is inspired by a women's vulval contours

yeah but having a girl sailor is/was considered bad luck
you'd think having the boat be girl wouldnt bode well for them
unless they decided to call the ship female and tell the girl sailors that the ship would get jealous if there was another girl around to steal attention from her

Imagine long days and nights at sea - only male sailors... Would've been sad with nothing female around, wouldn't it? (Fish are food or danger, the question of sex there is irrelevant ;)

because mermaids are female!!!... and guys were (are) scared to death of loosing their mind because of their song.... They thought a female ship would protect them from the "terrible" sirens being on the right side!!!!...
Silly boys....so candid.....isn't it? Neptune wants the sirens all for himself anyway.... So, sailors are doomed..... no matter what....
