One girls back said EVIL. The other day I saw a new mom, about 32, whose tattooed lower back was exposed along with the tops of her fuschia thong. Did Britney Spears start it, and what do you think of this as a fashion statement; swanky or skanky?

I'm 20 and find it discusting, im not a fan of tattoo's.
Girls place them there because it is visable, doesn't collect fat (and get streched) and won't be affected by pregnancy and can be covered easily by most clothes if they choose.
People call these tramp stamps or bullseyes (because a boy sees this on a girls lower back and know she is a loose or easy girl and therefore is an easy target, traget, bullseye)
Lower class, and income girls generally get tattoo's like this thinking they are sexy. Brittney S. was raised low class and income, and although she has money she is still trashy. She didn't start this tready by women is maxim, stuff, and that general genre did, most of these girls expose their body for attention and money.
Its for attention and statement.
I'd rather make a statement with my studies, career, and life than with some stained skin on my ***.

I have one on my lower back - I got it about 6 years ago. I gave it alot of thought before I did so though. It is two water dragons facing off and creating the shape of a heart, depicting the pices sign. It's personally significant to me.

They are much more a common fashion statement now. I guess women choose that spot because it is easy to cover up and if you regret it, you don't have to see it in the mirror everyday!

That being said, I'm still happy with mine.

I just wonder what the tat's will look like when the person gets all fat and old.

Well I guess when you're fat and old you don't wear fuschia thongs..so your old lady undies cover things up..hopefully.

Anyways to answer your question I think its sorta skanky. Since everyone is wanting tatoo's anymore its not as cool as it used to be. It's just...eh. People say they do it to be unique or whatever..well they're just being like everybody else and choosing a tat right outta a book anyways.

It was started along with all the midriff baring and navel exposing and thong exposing. Of which Britney was definitely a trend setter, but perhaps not the first.

Personally I think thongs are gross and make a girl look immediately like a slutt, especially if exposed. Who reeally wants a permanent wedgie anyway??? It's just advertising to be hurt or used.
And what's with all the fat chicks exposing their skin???
Does anyone want to look a blubber roll???
Not me!
I think the back tattoos look less skanky than thongs but still skanky and I am a fashionable lady! I'm not a prude, but they definitely are below the modesty and good taste line.

Well I am a male and on one hand I say it is a turn on but just that. I would not like to have my wife with it or even think of marrying a woman who has it. It says a lot about a woman and that is the problem. I am not saying that all women are like that cause some just do it cause its the "in" thing. In general though it displays a bit of flirtateousness. Think of what it will look like when the woman gets old and her skin starts to wrinkle. I have seen old women with tattoos and its not a pretty sight. So for me thinking on the long stretch of life, I believe that any woman who thinks of putting it on should think of what message they are trying to send or what message they are sending.

I wanted a tattoo for a long time and figured that if I ever had children the lower back was a place that I could both hide it and that wouldn't get all stretch marked. As for the chick that said it can't be for the person, that's crap. My tattoo is an expression of myself and my soul. Blame yourself if you are that stunted that you can't appreciate knowing your own self.

Women have been doing this for about fifteen years or so, but I think a few years ago a bunch of people went crazy and got meaningless ones...because, you know, they are sooo trendy right now! Mmmhmm. I think for some people it is a safe rebellion, which is kind of too bad because it is becoming less and less of the art it is meant to be.

i think they can do it if they want to, its the same as any other tatto, sometimes ive seen some that i find very sexy, there are some others that i dont like, it depend of the environment she is showing, schools, malls etc, i would say that in many cases is skanky, but there are some other places where i would not only approve but encourage my wife or daughter (when she gets old enough to) to show...

Dumb. As if there isn't ENOUGH advertising & graffetii in the world- people are marking up their bodies to get attention because their brains aren't good enough to get it for them. How sad is that? Once upon a time- only drunk sailors on shore-leave got tattoos- because they missed their surrogate "mothers" (girlfriends) back home. NOW people get tattoos because they're missing large sections of their cerebral cortex...Well, maybe things haven't changed THAT much... So don't blame it all on B. Spears...-she's just a sad reflection of the times...
