Fantastic question. I asked something similar yesterday. Its not easy though to influence the extremists. Even finding them might be hard. A good place to start though would be in the mosques where radical Imams and Sheiks sprout hatred and death. However a start needs to be made before the religion is hijacked. What used to be a religion of peace is now pure gratuitous violence.

If they speak up they are likely to get their thoat cut. Not just them but the whole family too. So they keep quiet. So if we are to fight these people, who do we kill? If they wont speak up, how do we know who is on what side? Silence implies consent. I"m afraid they are about to be caught between a rock and a hard place. The one thing I am sure of is that it won't end till a lot of people are dead. NO it has nothing to do with income or education. Some of these suicide bombers have collage degrees.
I'm not sure the leaders are truly elected. I think the clerics are back stage pulling a lot of strings.
To be afraid to speak up so you let a minority steal your faith and turn it into an ugly pointless war is truly a shame. Well I guess its like the man said,
Learn to stand for something or you will fall for anything.

In Australia they have something in progress. The muslim leaders are getting together and making sure they are stamping out the extremists. It's a difficult process because the muslim community is making sure the young generation speak english. It's a good start, I just hope they solve something soon because I don't want to see another Cronulla Riot again...
what's worse, the Australian citizens are taking power in their own hands.... you have teenagers terrorizing people at malls... It's not the whites, it's the other races too that are picking on innocent people here...

Don't be foolish.
We don't need a secularist, Crusader, Zionist or America-lover to tell us how to pray to Allah.
Our religion is the same as it ever was. We have fought against evil nonbelievers for over a thousand years and have never been afraid of a fight.
It is only paper tigers like America who act brave but prove to be afraid.
There is no such thing as "radical" or "moderate". The only problem are evildoers who try to divide us.
The world has problems because most of it don't listen to the peaceful teachings of the genius prophet Muhammad (pbuh).
Only when the whole world submits to the word of Allah will Earth will be at peace.
If you accept that Muhammad was the last prophet on Earth, given to us by Allah would you understand.
Until then, stop telling people how to pray in their religion. When the Crusaders are swept away from Rome and Washington and the monarchists are taken out of London and Stockholm, will you understand that Islam is the best way.
Enemies must be fought until the end, no quit at all in the Umma.

Can you do something to stop extremists like J. W Bush, who attack a country and kill thousands of innocent people and then says the information on the basis of what the attack was made is wrong. Do you know that all those termed terrorists today were the holy warriors yesterday while they were fighting for US in Afghanistan. The US and its allies have weapons and money to farward its policies while the victims have religion to seek support from people. What they should do just to stand hands up and watch US kill their childern because the US has the divine right to fix things in the world according to its own rules. All you see is a reaction to the imperialist bad policies of the powerful nations. Can you imagine why a man or a women blow herself up? Because they have lost their hope. This is what the history of mankind tells us. The rule of tyrrany lives not longer. We hate terrorism in all its forms whether state sponsored or individually inspired. Do you know that how much cost we paid for the war in Afghanistan? No, You do not know because the media picks the spots where there is a problem for those who pay the media. We were quite moderate in our thoughts and actions but war in Afghanistan (1979- todate) has reactionalised our societies as well. If you have a solution please tell us. We will welcome it because we are more suffering than you. That is not religion which will be the loser but the whole world. Imperialist designs, militry adventures, market greed, political plans of the powerful nations, poverty and ignorance of the developing nations, dictatorial governance in Islamic countries supported by US and biased media around the world are some of the basic reasons for what we are seeing today. Your media tells you that all muslims are terrorists while our media tells us that all of you want the poor in the world to be killed and robbed of their resources to run your high standard of living. Who is right? The solution in my mind is to understand each other rather than to critcise. Both sides should criticise their own players for playing foul play. Moderates in our part of the world critcise our dictators who carryout US policies and kill innocent people. Would you please criticise your government to stop training and supporting unconstitutional dictators in our countries? I hope I answered your question in the best way I could do it. Thanks

some muslims are extremists, but the truth is Al Quida formed because the american government funded money to the ISI in Pakistan which allowed Al Quida to buy weapons to fight off the soviet union, during the cold war, in Afghanistan. Muslims are made they are blamed for 9/11 and are retalliating... no Muslims conspired to do 9/11 besides the american government

I agree. It would be nice to see more in the media on moderate muslims too to help promote the rational side of their faith as opposed to the extremists.

Your concepts are a bit erroneous.. they do not vote for the person who is really in command. You apparently do not understand monotheistic government. You also apparently do not understand the commandments these people have to abide by...Should they do what you ask of them, they will be considered infidels and be subjected to death. They cannot respond, out of fear for their life and that of their families. They are also under that commandment and must follow the sword or again be classed as an infidel.. they don't or won't be given a chance to convert.

They shouldn't have to. There are Christians that want to nuke the middle east... obviously not all Christians believe in that sort of thing (thou shall not kill). Obviously not all Muslims are bad. Just like not all Muslims are good.
And as for elections. Yeah.. because democracy is in all countries. Extremists are rarely elected (there are exceptions) most of the time they're shoved into office or gain it with or without approval.

They are not the only religion who is getting a bad reputation for the few extreme crazies. Look at christianity, when someonee says they are a "born again christian" the first thought that pops into peoples heads is "Oh, you must run around bombing abortion clinics and standing on street corners screaming at people that they are going to hell" it happens!
