Being hispanic myself it is alright to call a person hispanic.

The word Hispanic (Hispania,is the world given to Spain by the Romans) is a term denoting a derivation from Spain, its people and culture. It follows the same style of use as Anglo, which indicates a derivation of England and the English.

There is a wide variety of people in the hispanic community ranging from asian, white, indios (natives to america), people of african destent...and everything in between. This wide range of people even involves different religons catholics, jews, muslim and indinous beliefs.

True hispanics are those that descend from Spanish lineage or come from Spain (from the Latin Hispania).

Most commonly, however, people call anyone looking like a Mexican, Carribean, or Central American "hispanic" despite the gross lack of actual "hispanic" blood.

There is nothing wrong with that, it's slang for Spanish Armericans. As far as I know that's not derogatory. Have fun on your trip!

yes....i in my opinion, it is actually better than spanish or mexican, because it seems broader, and u have less of a chance of calling someone from mexico "spanish" (since spaniards are from spain)

i'm sure the people of america are more relaxed with their culture than us brits. i'm afraid to call someone asian, chinese or anything else for fear of being called rascist
