Minimal is just another word for a good day in my book......I also have IBS.

Having IBS you already know what you can and can't eat; so I'm not going to suggest something like shredded wheat for breakfast and your system does not handle fiber well.......Please read the "Digestive Disorders and Coconut" article about IBS and Crohns disease. Macaroons work!

I have had a lot of relief by taking a german made product that really helps IBS sufferers. You cannot take it if you are on a blood thinner. It is called WOB Enzyme N... I take three pills in the morning on an empty stomach...and three before bed. If I am eating out...and the food is the kind that might kick me into IBS.. I take three before I eat or even during the meal. It really helps regulate your digestion so that you can properly retain the food in your colon longer. Here is alink to it so you can check it out for yourself. http://www.virtuvites.com/misc/wobenzym_n.htm I eat fairly normally now and it is so nice!!!

I too have IBS. Unfortunately, there's really not much you can do about it. Try taking Immodium A/D...it helps, but won't get rid of it completely.

You should be eating more fresh fruit, vegetables, and brown rice rather than so much wheat (bread and pasta). You could have eggs for breakfast.

Have you looked into the possibility that you have food allergies, candidiasis, and/or leaky gut syndrome? It sounds very possible that you are eating something you are allergic to. Pay attention to when you get your cramps and gas, is it worse after a particular food? Be sure to drink lots of water.

The most probable cause is a 'parasite' ie bacteria, worm, ie giardia, or similar. (important search engine word: PARASITES)

Treat.
1. Wide spectrum anti-parasite. Garlic, ginger, black walnut hulls, cloves, GRAPEFRUIT SEED EXTRACT (is very, very good) or a wide spectrum anti-biotic, older ones are better.

2. Fiber, eat a high bran cereal, Kellogs Bran Buds has pysllium which is 2x better than regular fiber. Or go to the drug store and ask for a cleanser.

3. Intestinal probiotics. This is the live stuff in the stomach the processes food. (Most ignored element of the human body) Found in some yogurts, ie Activa, or sourkraut, or in pill form. Do some research.

4. Omega 3 helps keep the system fluid.

This should work, you are your own experiment, what may work for you may not work for others, we are all different.

Again key word is "parasites', and remember it takes 3-5 tests, not merely one to rule out giardia the most common infection.

Good Luck !!

(please pass this on if it helps...)
