Possibly a sciatic nerve issue.

My pains were caused by a pinched nerve. As we get older the disc (cushions) in our back lose some of their fluids and then the disc space gets narrower. When they get narrower they press on a nerve and cause the nerve signals radiating out into your hips. Sometimes mine will start going down the legs as well. It is best to do deep moist heat on back and put a pillow between your legs when sleeping. Your back can get out of alignment with our hips and this can cause some discomfort. Start keeping tabs of what movements irritate your hips and see if you can find a common denominator. Once you have your data see your doctor and they can take it from there. Best of luck and hope you feel better.
