I was helping my daughter with her homework around five o'clock, and we hear a knock at the door. So, I answer it, and it's three schoolmates of my daughter's asking if we want to buy anything. I say no, and then, "Wait a minute. What are you selling?" because I thought maybe it's for charity or something. So one of them says "We're just selling our stuff." and they have a bag of old stuffed animals and books with price tags on them. So I ask them "Is your mom with you?" and they say no. So I asked if their parents knew they were going around selling things and they said yes. So, basically, I'm confused. Two of the kids were 7, one was 8. What are your thoughts on this?

my thought are why would any parent let thier child go door to door alone to sell thier stuff. yes kids always want to try to sell thier stuff my son does it but for god sakes they are way too young to go alone , they may be hurt by some psycho , tell the parents not to let them do this themselves.

It's kinda funny because all the little kids around here do the same thing....They are having a race to see who gets the most change...I had to buy my daughter a coin machine. You put the money in the jar and it counts it. I really think it's just this age. The kids around here are 7-11 the older ones are worse. All the parents fuss about it. My hubby just today told my daughter to stay on our rode "we live in the country" and don't be selling stuff. They are playing. Like carrying around a pad and saying.May I take your order, but it doesn't look good at all.....I know what you mean. But I have noticed the same thing.

That's far away.... These kids I'm talking about all like in the same hill and have known each other since K-5. I think I would call the parents. I bet they don't even know they are doing it. They'll be thrilled. haha
Kids do some crazy things.

I think they were three very young "entrepreneurs" and I strongly suspect that their parents didn't have a clue they were doing this.
The next time I saw their mom, I'd casually mention the event, just to check it out.
I say this because when my sister and I were about the same age, we got the "bright" idea to make money by putting on play clothes from the dress-up box, rubbing dirt on our hands and faces and going door to door, asking for change. We went to our own front door first(!) and I have never seen my mother move so fast to get us inside and into the bathtub. We were told NEVER ever to do that again but it wasn't until years later that I realized why! (At the time, Mom just said, "Because I said so.")

It does sound kind of weird...but maybe they come from a not so normal family. Hate to think of it, but maybe they have some freaky weird parents that are punishing them by making them go around the neighboorhood selling the favorite "stuff". I've met parents that would do that sort of thing.

Think about what normal means.

No. It is not normal. Scary in fact.

Would not like to think your daughter might want to do the same thing as them when you are not around.
Speak to her about the inappropriateness of such behavior.

Now, your kid doesn't want you to be the parent who "rats" on her friends. But you might just find a way to bring it up with their parents. I am quite sure the parents are unaware of their behavior.

Hey, I would want to know if my kids were doing this behind my back.
Imagine what they want the money for. hhhhmmmmm...

Probably the future Donald Trump's living in your own neighborhood !
They had the wherewithal to know that they could get money for their old toys rather than just throw them away.
However, I have to say that IF I were to allow such young children going around the streets doing that, I would be with them !

hi,
there might be 2 causes , firstly , they might be selling out stuffs what they will not use any more , so tht they could alteast sell them out and get some money . secondly , they might be doing this without their parents knowledge as they might be requiring money for some purpose ( ofcourse pranky ! ) . but kids of this generation tend to normally sell books and articles like this for the sake of money and i feel no benefit of doubt can be given to these 2 kids!

My thoughts are, they wanted a little extra money, which is normal for kids, and they are too young to get a job, so they sold some old things they didn't want. Sounds fine to me.

i think their little kids trying to make money, my daughter is 8 and shes always pricing her stuff and trying to get family members to buy it, I let her have her fun at home, but i would never let her go door to door trying to sell stuff to neighbors.
