I am having really horrific pains after my period. I had surgery for endometriosis, fibroids, and cysts 3 months ago. Prior to my surgery I was having this pain and thought that the surgery would solve my problem but so far it has not. I ended up being taken to the emergency room last month for the same pain and while I was there they did an ultrasound and found nothing. The doctor who performed surgery doesn't know either. Prior to seeing this doc, I have seen several others and all they do is give me pain meds. I am confused and frustrated. This pain is ruining my life. The pain is always on my lower left abdominal area and only exist for about a week and a half after my period. Any idea what it could be?

It's Endometriosis.

Endo can only rarely be seen on ultrasounds, and then only in a limited capacity at best. Don't take their word for it that the disease hasn't recurred, simply based on the fact that they can't see it on an U/S.

Unless all disease was thoroughly and completed surgically excised (a procedure performed only by a handful of advanced Endo surgeons in the country) from all locations including bowels, bladder, diaphragm, etc., the symptoms will recur and continue to cause you pain. It needs to be effectively removed, not just superficially vaporized.

Get a new doc who understands the disease and knows how to truly treat it instead of repeating surgeries with superficial laser ablation followed by drug therapy.

Good luck and feel better.

Fat people can help themselves with surgery-- stomach stapling. Or they can change their diet. What does this have to do with you? Plenty. Read this webpage.
