My clothes, that I handwashed, still smell soapy after I finally dried them(outside). This may be a dumb question, but is that normal? or should i wash them in a machine?

Try using a laundry detergent that has no fragrance added. You can wash your clothes one more time without any detergent, and that should take care of any remaining soap in your clothes.

If you washed them by hand then it is likely that you did not thoroughly rinse the soap out of them, or you used too much soap. It is not normal. Hand-washing clothing is a laborous task, and difficult to do consistently. I recommend machine-wash all the way.

Use a non-scented detergent and cut back on the amount you are using, rinse well, wring and rinse again. Hand washing usually requires more effort to rinse out because the detergent stays in the clothes. I use oxi-wash or oxi-clean works well for both hand washables and in the washer. No scent and no rashes!

True story: When my sister went to Arizona years ago with the high school band, she stayed with another band member from the host school whose mother was a school teacher. She watched as they machine washed, rung their clothes, hung it on the line and totally SKIPPED THE RINSE PART. Naturally, everything washable had a strong Tide smell.

looks like not enough rinsing. you should change the water used for rinsing when it gets soapy. keep changing the water until after rinsing the water is clear of soap. you may also use lesser amount of soap for your wash.

Maybe you are using too much detergent. Give them a really good rinse, or switch to a non-scented detergent.
