I'm doing a school project- if it's a novel I have to read half. If they are short stories I have to read three.

I would think you could read all of Madame Bovary in a month -- only 21 chapters.

How about finding a copy of "Three tales" then? It would make it easy now wouldn't it?

Madame Bovary (As much as I adore her) Is an obvious choice. Whenever asked to write anything on an author, everyone always picks the easiest and most obvious very few ever stop to consider the vast bodies of work these authors often had aside from the most popular publication.

I always read the least known and the least common. It gets you noticed in class and people really pay attention. Besides, if working for respect for Flaubert... Madame Bovary was his least favorite of his own work.

The temptation of St Anthony

Sentimental Education

Bouvard and Peuchet

Salammbo.

Any of these are excellent as Flaubert was a character genius.

Or Three Tales

That all depends on how well you read and how dedicated you are to this assignment. The book you should read is "Madame Bovary."
This can be done in a month:
"The novel focuses on a doctor's wife, Emma Bovary, who has adulterous affairs and lives beyond her means in order to escape the banalities and emptiness of provincial life. Though the basic plot is rather simple, even archetypal, the novel's true art lies in its details and hidden patterns"

And best of all there is a movie.
