It's called being "on-deck" or "in the on-deck circle" in baseball.

That's the batter's warm-up circle, where the next batter can swing safely before he steps up to the plate for his shot at popping a homer, making a base hit.....or striking out.

The batter's circle also allows for batter changes to take up less time, for the clock is running in some forms/leagues of baseball.
