I've been having numbness in my big toe. It doesn't occur during a particular activity, although I have noticed it more when I wear a certain pair of shoes. I'm assuming it's a pinched nerve & don't care enough at this point to pay towards my insurance deductible (it starts over soon), so please don't just tell me to see a doctor. If you don't know, just skip me. :) Anyway, if it's just a pinched nerve, how do I "fix" that? I've had one before when I was younger and the solution was simple- don't cross my legs so much. Since this is in my toe & not my leg, is there something else I should/could do? Thanks for any info. :)

I'm not being dumb about it- asking on the Internet first is my way of knowing how serious to take this. If I drop dead before my deductible starts over, then you can call me dumb. Until then, I'm waiting. There is NO pain (for whoever said to ice it)- just numbness sometimes. Diabetes doesn't run in my family unless you count a cat. I'm a young healthy woman. Like I said, I've had a pinched nerve before and the NEUROLOGIST was able to help simply by having me cross my legs less. That's why I wanted to know if there was something I could do on my own. Thanks for the people who just answered the question. :)

You can't fix it yourself. Wait til you can pay for it then go to a doctor or physical therapist. They have to find the reason why the nerve is pinched, and where it is occurring in order to fix it, if it is indeed fixable.

For pinched nerve, you should see a Chiropractor who can help you ease your pain by adjusting the neck and back bones which have suppressed it and also through various types of stretching and massages. The Chiropractor can tell and explain your problem in detail, after running some tests and an x-ray taken at the affected area. Depending on how serious your pinch nerve is, you need to get it treated for at least several times for good recovery. Don't forget - no pain, no gain. Chiropractic treatment really works!

If its not too painful to touch it yourself, massage it with some warm oil, such as coconut or sesame oil. Which ever oil you use, make sure that it isnt too hot...it should be warm.

Also, I'm not sure how this would help with the toe, but when my mom had a pinched nerve, she did hatha yoga. She went to the doctor for a year and all they do is give pain killers. Yoga helped her heal in about a month.

Good luck!

wow, pinched nerves don't have a cure, at least that's what the doctor told my sister who has a pinched nerved in her back. Maybe you can have surgery to fix it. But make sure to check with your doctor.

to say you don't want to see a doctor is just naiive. Fact of the matter is, for a 'pinched' nerve, there's next to nothing you can do on your own. Pinched nerves usually cause pain anyway, not numbness. Peripheral neuropathy can be a symptom of more serious underlying disease. Anything from diabetes to a vascular disease.

Don't be dumb about this, if it persists, and doesn't go away, you really should see a doctor.

Pain is always a sign that there is inflammation. Therefore, I;d ice the exact spot of the pain for ten minutes through a sock and off ten minutes for at minimum four hours. Do not walk on IT if possible for at least two days, exc[pet wherever necessary. If you have an on your feet job, it probably will not heal quicly unless you ice vigorously.. Advil though not particularly good for humans, nevertheless in an antiinflammatory. I suspect shoes don;t fit properly eiither.
