"If you or your parents or our ancestors came here from another country, explain how that country is connected to the United States"

...My father joined the United States military from the Philippines and so did his older brother and father. There are so many other countries I can think of with strong connections to the US, but is there an outright, or other powerful way that the Philippines is connected to the US? Thanks for the help, I really appreciate it.

The Philippines were a U.S. Territory until hmmm.. at least until after WWII? We took over administration from the Spanish after the Spanish American War of 1898 and had military bases there until at least the 1990's. Many Filipino's fought and died for the Allies in WWII as well.

So legally, the Philippines were as much a part as the United States in 1940 as Hawaii.

The Philippines has one of the most tragic connections to the US. Look up what Theodore Roosevelt did with the Philippines when he was the President of the US.

Well the connection is simply the fact that the immigrants
bring a little of their home country with them in their ideologies
and habits and foods, and lifestyles.

So from that point of view there is a connection albeit tenuous

Italians immigrated from Italy to the USA, therefore, they became US citizens and that is how they are connected to the USA.
