Hole-N-Head Guard
Effectively helps treat hole-in-the-head disease common to South American Cichlids.

It is important to perform a large 30-40% water change before treatment and if possible raise the temperature to 92°F. It is advisable to remove plants as they will wither at such temperatures.
Early treatment is important as the holes that the parasite create often leave the fish open to a secondary infection.

When treating this or any disease, try to use a separate treatment tank

For hole in the head (HITH) you really need to do 3 things to prevent it from getting worse, and coming back again period...
1. Do frequent water changes to you tank - every 7 days and at least 10-15% of the water.
2. Mix up your Oscar's diet. Do not always feed them feeders. They will eat Beef Hearts soak in Garlic as well as other meats, but try to see if you can get them some sort of pellets as well. They need a variety in their diets.
3. Use Maracyn-2 for either 1 or 2 five day cycles on the infected Oscar in a Hospital tank. That will help begin the healing process, and if you maintain the above to steps - your Oscar(s) will almost always be healthy.
Good luck!

I have used it before, but what I did first was this-I took my Oscars out of their aquarium (30 Gallon) and in some other water for a bit, drained the tank, put the tank in the bathtum, took beach and antibacterial soap and cleaned it really good. got all the glass inside and out, cracks, and the black plastic part at the top. Cleaned it really, reall good. I rinsed it out to get the residue out of it. Then I also cleaned all of the aquarium scenic stuff with soap and bleach-rocks, castles, plastic plants, all of it, and rinsed them all really well to make sure they had no residue. I refilled my tank, put back in the scenic stuff, put in water conditioner and New Balance, and also put more Tank Buddies in. I put my fish back in and they have been fine every since.
Every now and then-every 3 months or so-you might want to do this to destroy any bacteria that have started grow inside the aquarium. It is work, cuz it takes me 1.5 hours just to do a 30 gallon tank, but I have invested too much money in my fish to let them die. Those Oscars are expensive!!!

Parasite Clear has the right antibiotic (metronidazole) to treat it. But, what happens with HITH disease, they can develop a secondary infection from Hexmita. That is what the metronidazole will clear up, not the HITH disease.
Sly is correct on what you need to do. You can also use the Parasite Clear or the products he recommended.

NO! They clean algae. You need to buy an anti-fungal for your oscar before other fish get infected.
