I would be a Federalist. Without a moderate or strong federal government, the individual states do not have enough of a reason to cooperate. During the period where the Articles of Confederation were active, the states couldn't even agree on a navigation plan for the Chesapeake River and Bay - something that affected all of them! The federal government was never given enough money to operate.

Additionally, the country was heading towards financial ruin, as it had no way to pay the revolutionary war debts - the Articles did not provide a way to spread the debt around, nor did it provide a way to raise the money.
