I guess I better put the word some in there before I am accused of generalizing. So where did that phrase "fixin to" come from? I'm just being silly and want to know. Don't get mad. Just explain!

Shirley e Why did you bring up race? I don't say ax. And they say blacks are more racist. Better look in the mirror!

I have NO idea where it came from. It's just southern. I'm from Texas and we grew up with it! I have had many a person from up north laugh and make fun of me, but hey all i can say is its my heritage! Thanks for asking! I'd like to know where it came from as well! Same with y'all! What in the world?

I'm fixin to git to sleep so i'll see y'all later! (I guess that would sound pretty hick to some!)

Not sure where it came from but I have found that it doesn't mean they are planning to do it any time soon. if they say I'm fixin' to go to the store it may mean right now or it may mean tomorrow. I found it kinda charming, just indicative of the more laid back way of life in the South.

LoL playstation . i grow to be easily guffawing out loud then to instruct a element :)

I'm in South Georgia, and as long as I have been around "fixing to" has always been part of my and my family's and neighbor's vocabulary. It's just one of those Southern things
