try introducing yourself to neighbours, if your younger try things like dances, and other community gatherings... you could also try getting involved somewhere, thats a good way to meet people...

Do you have any hobbies, such as pottery, hiking, yoga? These are all good ways to meet people. In my city, there is an outdoors club and the members meet and hike and bike around the city and plan overnight trips during the summer.
Also, there are some dance clubs that you can go to and they hook you up with partners for either lessons or casual dancing.
Another idea is to volunteer somewhere. I used to volunteer at the Humane Society and that's a good way to meet others.
If you are looking to meet people to date, how about match.com? I have met several good guys, including my boyfriend. I have also met a few that I have stayed friends with.

Have you tried going to church? Lots of nice people there. I made a lot of friends when I joined and volunteered at the local historical society. These people were very proud of the local history, they were intelligent and pleasant people. Try going to community events like fall festivals, sporting events or even yard sales. Be friendly, but not too pushy or desperate and you will make friends in no time.

It depends on the type of person you want to meet. Do you want to meet a coffee person, or a bar person, or an internet person. I think getting a new job is a good way to meet people but that is me. Go to the place where you would hope that type of person you want would go. Bar people are mostly looking only for a good time to be ware.

Go to church, join a gym, take a class or two. Volunteer at a local hosptial, animal shelter, day care center. Learn a new hobby, take up a new sport. In otherwords get up off your butt in front of the computer and get out to where people congregate.
