Zinc is rarely used on its own but most commonly as an alloy for casting as it tends to lower the melting point of the mixture and make it easier to handle. Pure zinc can be seen as a coating on steal sheet in a process called galvanizing which helps to prevent rusting. A lot of zinc was used in the production of batteries (zinc/carbon type) but this is dropping since the introduction of the alkaline types.
Sphalerite as a gemstone is only for collectors of rare cut stones as it is quite unsuitable for use in jewellery. It is very soft (by gemstone standards) which means it will get scratched the moment you try to wear it. It also has strong cleavage the result of which is that it will crack and fall apart at the slightest knock. This is a great pity as it is highly attractive when cut.

I think carburetors and fuel injection bodies are made of zinc alloy. Also, brass is a mixture of copper and zinc.
Zinc is a fairly lightweight metal with low cost. However, since it is a rather active metal, it corrodes easily, so outdoor uses are limited. Many white/gray colored castings are zinc. Google "zinc castings" for some thoughts.

I've had an outbreak of acne once and this worked for me! I don’t know if you’ve heard of this before, but here’s what I did: Mix water with a generous amount of salt. Be sure to wear clothes that you won’t mind dirtying, in case you drip some salt water on it. Push back all you hair with a hairband or clips, whichever you like. Dip cotton wool into the saltwater for about 30 seconds and remove. Squeeze some water out, not all, and place it over the spot with your acne. Repeat for all the other spots. Leave it on for about 5 minutes for the small pimples and 10 minutes for the bigger acnes. The longer you leave it, the better It’ll be. If you leave it for a short period, the acne will just come back. Cut down on oily food, chocolates and all unhealthy food as much as possible. Hope this helps. Good luck!

US pennies are made of pure Zinc, with a fine outer coating of Copper plating on the outside. Scratch one if you don't believe me. Zinc is alloyed with Copper to make "brass" which has multiple uses, including doorknobs and brass buttons, among other things. High ranking military men are called "top brass". Steel is often "Galvanized" to prevent rusting which means it is coated with a thin outer coating of Zinc.
