Hello,
I went to an interview and I was hired by the company. The HR manager got my fingerprint on the first day of the job. I'm wondering if anyone out there has this experience. Is it necessary?

P.S. : It is a financial/security/mutual fund type of company

Never heard of that. Call the ACLU, drug testing, background checking and all that crap is getting out of control.

Yes, this is common for that type of company that has to be bonded and insured to protect the liability of their customers. Most of these companies take fingerprints and also do a full backround check, some even with the FBI ... up to 10 years back into your history. Be sure to disclose everything up front to HR if you have anything that may be considered unethical or prior convictions.

Yes, it may be for identification reasons. They should have had you sign some kind of a release for it first, but of course if you refused to sign it, they could rightfully deny you the job.

If they did it for the purposes of a background check, then they should have notified you that your employment was conditional pending the results of the check, and again, they should have provided you with a release to sign.

The ACLU, Dept of Labor, or SHRM website (society of human resource professionals) could provide more info.

When I was employed by the Federal Government I too was fingerprinted, although I'm still not for sure why it's just something that they do.

Locally, where I work, we have to take employees fingerprints for FBI background checks, to get the permits they need. We have to have that BEFORE when can even hire them.

now and days, I believe it is necessary. I am military so when I joined I got fingerprinted, blood drawn, thumb and hand prints. So I guess it depends what kind of job you are doing.

Perhaps, it depends on a company. Usually they run a background check without fingerprint..

What will you be doing? I can see taking fingerprints if you will be handling cash and negotiable items, secret material, narcotics, etc.

Quit if you object. Deal with it if you really want the job.

For certain security or government positions this is completely normal. I think this happens within some police/sherriff departments as well.
