I own a bike in Seattle. During the summer it is great. It doesn't get too hot, so I can usually ride with my leather jacket. In the winter it doesn't get to cold, so that works too. The only time I don't want to ride is when it is raining. traffic is horrible in Seattle, so I love being able to use the carpool lanes. Also, parking is hard in downtown, but there is also not a lot of places for a motorcycle, so that is a push.

Seattle is a very large and busy city. Riding a bike in Seattle is dangerous because of heavy traffic. It can be done but the percentages of bike rides IN Seattle is very small compared to cars.
Safety is one factor. Another is the weather. Starting in October, you get cold weather. Sometimes snow by the 31st. All winter... Oct through April .. you may or may not have snow, black ice is always something to think about. If you travel early in the morning and late at night, the rain landing on cold roads creates black ice. Heavy trafic will wear it off but if you have the option to have a car. Use the car.
Motorcycles in Washington are for the hard core motorcycle person. They are fun in the summer but that is about June through September and you will have rain even during those months.. off and on. This causes slick roads because rain on road grease.. makes the first trip on newly wet roads... SLIPPERY.
Again. Use a car if you have the option. Save motorcycles for fun rides, if you are totally broke & can't buy gas and as a last resort.

I'm moving to the Seattle area in the next 2 years. Eventhough I live in southern california I love to ride in the rain. I use a kevlar jacket and pants. I can also hang off and drag my knee because I use Metzler DOT production racing tires. Riding in the rain can be lots of fun with the right equipment and preparation. However riding in the rain in heavy traffic can be a bummer because the cars spray water at you from every direction. Just be cautious, enjoy your riding under any conditions. If the conditions become too harsh just pull over and find a place to hang out. Remember your life isn't worth making it anywhere on time or being in a rush. Hit me up and show me some of the local hangouts when I move. Later.

Owning a motorcycle here in Seattle would be practical in the dry months. It does drizzle here alot in the winter (November-March) and for those months it might not be as practical. People do it though. My neighbor has a motorscooter to get back and forth and he drives it even in the rain. There are alot of die-hard people here. If they drive a motorcycle, they'd probably do it in any type of weather.
HOPE THAT HELPS!

Not very. Considering how many days a year it rains in Seattle/greater Seattle Area (that is, like almost 50% of the year), having a motorcycle as your main transportation is not a good idea.

I don't know about Seattle. Check your weather to see how much good riding weather you have all year. Liability insurance on a motorcycle is really cheap about $100.00 to $500.00 a year where I live. Most motorcycles get around 25-50 miles per gallon.

depends on if you mind the rain. lots of folks in seattle have motorcycles. but a lot of them also have a backup vehicle just in case of rainy weather.

That would depend on how you felt about riding in the rain. While it fairly seldom downpours here, we do stay wet and drizzly for up to 9 months out of the year. Plenty of people still ride under those conditions, but I think dealing with wet clothes and stuff when you reach your destination would be a consideration.

very practical as long as you own the right gear to keep you dry and warm.
