You need to get a character list b/c I don't remember names.

Girl with a pearl earring is about a Protestant girl that goes to work as a maid for a Catholic family b/c her painter father has become blind and they are no longer making enough money to live on. She is instructed on cleaning out the master's room where he paints(vemiers) He notices that she keeps everything as he likes it because since her father was a painter she knows about what it takes to be able to paint. Slowly she becomes kind of like an apprentice, he lets her make paints for him and lets her in on things he won't even talk about to his wife. Well after a while his wife notices the special attention that is payed to the maid and she becomes very angry. The painter, has run into a lot of debt and will only paint if he can paint her(the maid). She lets him pierce one of her earlobes and puts in one of his wife's pearl earrings. She has become his inspiration. The bad thing is that his wife doesn't want him to paint the maid b/c she has realized that her husband likes the maid a lot more than he likes her. Anyways it all ends with the maid leaving and marrying the butcher's son, and never seeing the catholic family again. Until when the painter is dying another maid is sent to give the maid the pearl earrings.
