I'm who I am. I've had several different names over the years and it's always been me. I think if You were to make a new name up for Yourself it could be part of a life change or phase shift that a driven individual orchestrated for them self. It would seem to be demonstrative in the phenomena of single named celebrities. Interesting premise, I think over all I'd be inclined to say yes; if the individual wants the change they can change into the best that they can be. It's a funny thing about that, that is the way I try and see everyone I encounter.

Many people say you are born with your personality traits.
However, although this is true, threw the course of life, you do infact change. A great philospher once said, you are apart of every person in life you meet. Whether it just be a friendly smile from some strange person you dont know. That person had an impact on your life.
I beleive you are born with specific traits, skills and abilities. You are to take it upon yourself to adjust, change or modify those characteristics to best suit you.
Changing your name will change the way you think about yourself in some regards. Therefor, to answer your question yes. Changing your name will allow you to interact and feel more comfortable, possibly harnicing the traits you already possesse to a higher level or magnitude.

Been there, done that. NO you cant. Not unless you move away from family and friends and make new friends. You get harassed, annoyed and nagged.
When you try to use your new name in new situations and a friend or family member is around, they contradict you on the spot....
There is one angle you need to consider and that is losing your family name heritage. Changing your name by the way, does not change who your are and gives you a false perception of yourself.
Unless you are a professional actor my advice is save yourself some hassle and forget it. Yep, got my old name back and once again have peace. Actors for whatever reason can get by with it easier.

I think that you can to a certain extent but if you are around alot of people that already know you, then I think it would be hard. Reinventing oneself would be more successful appearance-wise rather than just a name change - especially when in the public eye.

It all depends..... some people cannot escape themselves no matter how hard they try. Perhaps they really don't want to change... Others can change like a chameleon on the drop of a dime. But your basic underlying self will always be with you. We tend to masquerade ourselves, more than change or reinvent.

I am who I am, a name is given with great thought in mind, but the name you wear dose not just mean you can not be who or what.
Yes you can reinvent your name, but who you are is from your heart, mind and soul...

Woman do it all the time when they get married. They would keep their maiden name if it didn't make a difference. Men don't change their last names when they marry.
I know people who have changed their names and it did make a big difference.

Yes, if I could stop being Iris, I would no longer be "the virus," and the same goes for my boyfriend Cyrus! Us being named what we are made us eccentric, so we shall name our kids Tyrus & Miress (boy & girl order) to make them as much like us as possible. A rose by any other name does NOT smell as sweet to me!!!

It can, it just depends on the metamorphosis you want to create. I mean really do some soul searching on this before you do it. And once you commit, follow through. Be the ideal new you that you want to be...never look back. : )
Hope this helps
