In reality, most people will look towards wherever there are no distractions to prevent concentration. Early in life (childhood), a person might develop a habit of starting this visual search in a certain area (up, down, upper left, etc) and will tend to stop there most often if there are no distractions. However, that same person will just as likely quickly shift that gaze if the starting area has some form of distraction. Beyond the habit, there is probably very little significance to where one looks.
And, no, there is also likely no significance whatsoever to what direction the child looks when developing the habit. It is far more likely to have been an entirely random act repeated simply because it was successful.

you should find your answer in a text dealing with psychology as a science. broca's receptive area is in the left frontal lobe of the brain, the receptive area I believe.
I am a little rusty at this, but in the right frontal lobe is wernickes expressive side of the brain.
This is not a dig, but women are more developed in this area, and talk more. I am glad I am at home behind this computer, because I can immagine cyber tomato's being tossed my way.
As I said I am rusty, but check out any book that has psychology as a science.
I am a little ashamed because I have had psychology as a major, And I feel I should be able to give more, but my wernicke's expressive area is shutting down.

I think what you are talking about is that when one looks to the left they are lying (because it is related to the creative side of the brain). When they are looking to the right they are retrieving memory and are telling the truth. Also people look to the left or right depending on what they are asked. If they are asked for a math answer they look to the right I believe and to the left if they are answering something more abstract or creative. I remember learning about this in one of my many psychology courses.

the term "scientifically proven" is a contradiction in it's self and means much less than most people think

I've heard that if a person looks left it means that they are lying.
