Ask someone you know that is a musician and sing for them or record yourself singing and play it for them. They will give you an honest opinion. Make sure you don't ask family or friends because they tend to be bias and might not tell you the truth just to spare your feelings.

I used to feel exactly the same way, but I gradually gained confidence by moving into bigger audiences. I was singing along while staying at my aunt's place, but didn't know she was listening. She walked out and said, "You gave me goosebumps!" That was a wonderful feeling, because I'd always been dying to sing but wasn't sure if I was good. I got a singing teacher, for a more objective opinion, and have since been accepted into a singing course run by a famous producer, and performed at several gigs.
The moral of the story is, don't fail for want of trying. How will you feel if you look back in twenty years and wonder what might have been? Your family are usually a good place to start testing your singing, as they know you well and (usually!) won't feel obliged to tell you you're good if you really aren't. Just take the plunge! he worst thing that can happen is someone telling you that they don't like your singing. But who knows, maybe there's someone else who will like your singing!
And you should always sing for yourself. If others end up disliking it, that's their loss. If you enjoy singing, you're entitled the the right to sing!

Sing in front of a crowd or group and you will get some honest reactions. If you get some bad reactions then maybe you should get singing lessons or just continue to sing in the shower and while your in your car like I do - I know I suck! But I like to pretend when I am by myself that I can sing! Hehe..lol : )

record yourself singing to something and if you sound off key, stop or take lessons, but if it sounds ok, just practice until you get better. but iff you sing off key, i don't know how much i can tell you.
