Yes, birth control pills can cause depression and mood swings in some women. It can also be caused by plenty of other things going on in your life. If you feel like you are depressed and it may be caused by your ortho-tricyclen lo talk to your prescribing doctor. He or she may recommend that you switch brands because different levels or hormones may work better for your body. If you feel like the depression is caused by an outside source (boyfriend leaving you, stress from school or at home), you should talk to your doctor about this and he or she may recommend some coping mechanisms or that you see a cousellor. Good luck.

BC pills I think could cause depression, check with your Doctor. I do know that BC caused strokes in earlier years becuse the hormone was too high.Go into Web-MD and check on the side effects.

I don't know if it's proven that it can make you depressed.. but I took a birth control pill for just ONE day and it made me very depressed.
I called my OB/GYN the next day and told one of the women and she said "no... it couldn't of been the pill!"
so, whatever.. I know the pill made me feel bad.

Any alteration in your hormones can cause mood changes including depression. However, if you are the one who is depressed - I noticed your previous question about your boyfriend leaving you. Do you think that might be contributing to your sad feelings?

Yes. Talk to your gynie about switching to another brand of pill. I take Yasmin 28 and have never had a problem with it.

Yes they can, if your experiencing depression you should make a appointment with your gyn first. Hormonal imbalances can cause depression.
