I would try to find someone local or at least near to your home in the paper or in a horse supply store due to the fact that I have purchased many horses who have been drugged or aced before I left with them and on the third day they have knocked out of their mild manners to a rude, dangerous horse to have. You need to go close so you may pick up phone on a moments notice and get there fast to evaluate the horse, or just drop in when not expected to check them out. Do not get taken this way as it is not worth the time nor the money and heartache. By the way Potomac fever is going around here in Michigan , don't know about your states

sometimes you can find a good horse at an auction, but few and far between. BE CAREFUL, take someone with you who knows horses if you do go to auction. on the other hand, check out equine.com or dreamhorse.com. you can find some nice horses there. again be careful, have lots of pics sent and put in writing that if the horse is not what it is advertised you return and get your money back. if you are ok with getting a horse shipped try bayequest.com a website for bayarea in calif. good luck send me an email what are you looking for and I may be able to point you in the right direction.

Right now in the Midwest, horses are cheap ( clients of ours recently purchased a nice 1/4 horse for $1200).
More importantly than the price, evaluate what you want to do with your horse... Buying the wrong horse for the right money, is frustrating...Look at least twice before you buy.
In response to the person talking about the killer market...
Most horses at regular auctions are there because they have problems,, either physical, or they are ding bats.. If they were good horses, somebody would have bought them before..
Stop horse slaughter,,,, don't breed inferior horses...
That's why the good ones are cheap.

I wouldn't buy a horse off a website. My friend bought a "beautyful" hunter with long legs and great comformatin. When he backed out of the trailor she was not happy. He is a mustang with pony legs (as in short and stocky) and a huge body. Has nuvenvicular (i don't know how to spell that) in his legs and can barily be ridden. He's a mustang they cought and trained quick to make some money. They bought him for 5,000. I would buy from local trainers and horse dealers. It really depends on how pretty the horse is and what disaplin it is used for.

It all depends on what type of horse you are looking for. If you want a specific breed, you can do a general search for that type of breeder. If this is your first horse, I recommend that you get a 7-12 year old, not a green broke one. Horses this age have experience and are well broke. One thing you might want to consider is adopting a horse. One association is ReRun Inc., they rehabilitate race horses after their track career is over. These horses are usually excellent, their website is www.rerun.org. Also, check your local classified adds.

First of all I would not go to a horse auction just because that's how a lot of innocent people get riped off. If you have owned horses or are a professional then it would be okay. If I were you I would visit www.horsetopia.com or www.equinehits.com. Good luck!!! If your a first time horse owner and have any questions about horses feel free to e-mail me.

going to the auction house is a great way to get a horse for cheap but the thing is you can try them out at an auction. Go to CANTER. There you can adopt a grat horse for a small cost and there are good horses there as wel. There are many second hand operations out there, you just have to look.
www.cantermi.org is the one that I use

Ok buying a horse on line is ok for shopping not buying. I got my mare who is a registered APHA for free because she has navicular i have had her for a year and i have had little or no problem with her bomb proof great horse. She does english western pleasure and trails like nobodys business. got her from where my wife keeps her horses. So talk to your farrier or just go to local stables and start looking around . I believe that the horse you want will find you. good luck and i really hope you find the one

There are plenty of sites out there, but I hesitate to recommend one right now. Be very careful. I live in Texas and the West Nile Virus has been killing many horses who have been vaccinated.

Here are the list of websites I go to for all horses that are for sale and lease, and some have studs too:
http://www.2buyhorses.com
http://www.acmehorses.com
http://agdirect.com
http://dreamhorse.com
http://equine.com/
http://www.equinehits.com/
http://www.horsenpony.com/
http://www.horsetopia.com/index.html
http://horseville.com/
Well, those are think are the best anyway. Some have better advanced searches than others, but they all have good horses in them.
Good luck
