When I step on the gas, I've only heard it when I'm in park, there's a squeaking noise coming from the engine, it sounds like rubbing your finger on squeaky clean things...like teeth or glass. I'm not too worried about it, but does anyone know what it is? Could it be a belt?

It could be a belt slipping,- it also might be a air leak in the gasket coupling the valve cover with the head! Assuming of course that it is not an aluminum cover (though they sometimes leak too!) If the vacuum gets high enough, - sometimes it will suck in a little air, and the seal will vibrate, - making a squeaky sounding noise. I have had trouble like this with several cars (mostly foreign), - even with a chevy 305 engine one time. You could check to see that all the valve cover hold-down bolts are "moderately" tight, - If you really crank them down, it will make the gasket break, and it will then leak oil! The valve cover is put into vacuum via the PCV valve, - which is supposed to suck the oil fumes into the engine air induction system, - and burn them so that the engine puts out "less pollution", - (that's a debatable item!)

Yes it is more than likely a belt or a tension pulley is sticking. Depending on the car you may want to worry about it. If the car accessories all run off of one belt it will leave you stranded if it breaks.

sounds like a motor mount. that's a confusing rubber piece that sits between the engine and, properly, some thing of the vehicle. It reduces vibrations and noise. at the same time as it wears out and receives smooth and/or cracked, the engine strikes round more advantageous, and clunks. If it were suspension appropriate, you should maximum likely listen a clunk at the same time as turning or hitting bumps, and also you should be able to inform if it were coming from one aspect or the different.

I would guess either a belt or a pulley. If the belt hasnt been changed in a while Id start there its cheap.

What kind of vehicle is it? It may be a belt. Is it a continuous squeak or a chirp, chirp, chirp?
