Oh yay, I went to the orthodonist today, and gives me no mercy to my poor lips and for an hour and a half he was pulling my lips 360 degrees (to put brackets on my back molars) and now my lips are dry, chapped, and the skin around my bottom lip is completely swollen, red, dry, and irritated. Homecoming is on Saturday and right now I have tried hydrocortizone, sour cream (dont ask..sounded like a good idea) and all of it burns.
I'd really like to NOT look like i have smudged lipstick all over my face at the dance. (That is basically what it looks like.) And I'd love for it not to hurt anymore.
What can I possibly do?
Thanks in advance :)

Use LANOLIN. It comes as %100 pure lanolin usually in a little squeeze tube and it could be found in a store that sells breast feeding items or a baby store.
It is used on cracked nipples for breast feeding mothers and if you keep applying it to chapped skin it will heal in no time.

I recommend the stuff used to cure cold sores like Neosporin lip treatment- or abreva- but if it hurts a lot just regular antiseptic cream- with pain reliever will help- If you can stand to use it, carmex works really well for me. Every couple of hours- take an ice-pack if you can stand it, or just a cold, wet washcloth or paper towel and put it on your lips for a while- to help reduce the swelling- If it still has gone away- but it doesn't hurt anymore- you can try just using make-up to cover it up- but if it still hurts the best bet is just to leave it alone- meanwhile- just keep slathering lip-balm on your lips and leave it alone- don't scratch it or anything, and you should be fine.

Ice pack to reduce the swelling, on for 5 mins then off for 5.
Use your basic medicated lip balm to clear the rawness. It might sting a little too but it will clear it in a day or two.
Hey, and no smootchin' until your better....... '-)

The swelling should be gone in a couple days so I don't think you have anything to worry about with Homecoming in 6 days.

Sounds kinda sexy, like how Angelina Jolie always has those pouty swollen lips. Go with it.

That happens all the time to me, but your seems worse. Try chap-stick, and if all else fails, just wait it out, it's not likely that it will last more than three days. Good Luck!
