romor spreads like an epidemic at a rate directly proportional to the number of people who hear it. rumor spreading can be modeled by the eq. H= C / 1 + (C - S)e ^-.4t where c ius the total number of people in the community, S is the number of people who initally spread the rumor, and H is the number of people who have heard the number after t minutes. In a school of 1800 students, one studen going to lunch on friday overhears the principal saying the following monday there will be a surprise school holiday. about how many student will have heard the rumor after 45 minutes??
i keep working this out and get a number high er than 1800, please help!!! best answer anyone??

The sixth root is the square root of the cube root. Cube root 27 is 3, so the sixth root of 27 = sqrt(3)

For the rumor problem:

H = 1800/(1+ (1800 - 1)*e^(-.4*45)

H= 1 799.95068
, so really all 1800 people in school have heard the rumor.

27^(1/6) = (27^1/3)^(1/2) = 3^1/2 = square root of 3 = 1.732050808...

The equation cannot be correct. It's exponentially increasing, sort of, and so it can't be correct if it gives an answer greater than 1800. We need to assume that there are people to whom the rumor can spread. Since after some time 1800 people are reached, we conclude that everyone has heard the rumor.
