it's the same. are you asking what's the difference between MD and PhD? MD can practice medicine, PhD can't.

Just for the record, the JD is not really a doctorate. It is some weird degree that is just itself. JD = Juris Doctor; not Juris Doctorate. To get a doctorate in law you need to get a LL.D or a JSD.

Same thing, basically. A Ph. D. is a doctorate in humanities, social sciences, physical sciences. There are other types of doctorates, like in medicine (M.D.), law (J.D.) Music (D.M.A.),
education (Ed. D.) and so on.

there's none. PhD is abbreviation of the Latin name (philosophiae doctor) for doctorate
