Fat is made up of 9 calories.

You take the amount of fat calories in the item and multiply it by 9.
Then you divide the number of calories by that number.

Example:

Bag of chips: 1000 calories
Calories coming from Fat: 400 calories
400 x 9 = 3600
1000 / 3600 = 27.7% fat

Butter should come up as almost 100% fat anyhow.
