Start menu -> program files-> accessories -> system tools -> Files and settings transfer wizard.

first connect two drives together using a ribbon cable making sure one is the master and one is a slave or you can remove your cd drive and connect both in ide 1 and ide 2. it will be faster this way because both of the drives are masters. next open your computer and left click on the source drive (set the boot disk first)
select copy and paste it on the new drive. also try using a program called norton ghost its much easier.

make an ISO image of your old hd. run it on your new hd, if there both the same size use clone disk by farstone . if there not then use nti gold by Sony and i have found its easyer to use dvd for the image disks. you can also use the soft ware that comes with a new hd. to transfer every thing over but the clone disk is best.
