spell out numbers less than 10.

If you have one number less than 10, and one greater than 10, you can do either, but you have to be consistent.

Example:
I have 10 fingers.
He had nine lives.
She gave me three dollars and eleven dimes.
She gave me 3 dollars and 11 dimes.

You usually would spell the number out unless it is in the name of something and is actually the number. Sometimes it is a good thing tos pell it out. It takes up space in an essay!

I usually spell them out to be safe, but it's acceptable to use numerals when writing very large numbers. So five and 5,353,981. Got it? Good luck.

You must spell them out unless they are in a numerical context. For example if you are giving costs or dimensions, then they would be in numerical form.
