liquid detergents are better with a septic tank. As to which detergent is best??? I used ERA before I got the front loading machine and was happy with that. Now I use Whisk HE (high efficiency). Over a year ago I started using Oxiclean with each load. It has made a huge difference in both whites and colors, and I use about 1/2 as much detergent with each load when I add oxiclean. Once a month I may use white vinegar in the rinse water. This helps remove odors and fabric softener build-up. before I toss cloths into the hamper for washing later, I spray stains with Shout.

new ajax, laundry detergent, is stronger than dirt.--- liquid is always better as powdered can block up the washing machine. It says so right in the owners manual that comes with your washer...read it.

I use Tide powder. Just be sure to use correct temp water for powders. Some No-Name Generic powders don't dissolve all the way in colder water and will cause you problems. You get what you pay for.
