I love the Monkees too but they are a play off the Beatles so sadly I'd have to vote for the Beatles. The Monkees had a show before they had a real band and a few of them learned how to read music and play on the show.

Beatles. The Monkees had no meaning to their stuff, were too fake, and their fame isn't nearly as long-lasting as the Beatles. There's a reason for that. Now I will admit they had a couple of good songs. But they just can't compare to the Beatles. : )

I remember a quote from Frank Zappa. While tuning guitars and other things he said, "If we were the Monkees, we'd be ready by now". The Beatles are legitimate, The Monkees were a lot like what you see and hear in pop music today, which is very sad.

Beatles....The last three Monkees albums were absolutly dreadful. Lennon was a better songwriter than Nesmith.
