Looks like some of you "christians" who wrote unchristian answers need to read the sermon on the mount again in its entirety, and not just take the parts of the bible that support your position. It's easy and dishonest to take things out of context. It's christian to study and understand the truth.

In John’s time, a quart of wheat replaced into reckoned to be the on an usual basis ration for a soldier. How lots could this kind of ration fee? One denarius—an entire day’s salary! (Matthew 20:2) What if a guy had a kinfolk? properly, he could desire to purchase 3 quarts of unpolished barley extremely. Even that would feed purely a small kinfolk. And barley replaced into no longer seen as a high quality foodstuff inclusive of wheat. what's implied by the assertion, “do no longer harm the olive oil and the wine”? some have seen it as meaning that mutually as many could be wanting foodstuff or maybe ravenous, the luxuries of the wealthy does no longer be harmed. yet interior the middle East, oil and wine are no longer probably luxuries. In Bible situations, bread, oil, and wine have been seen as staples. (learn Genesis 14:18; Psalm 104:14, 15.) Water replaced into no longer continuously sturdy, so wine replaced into notably used for eating and in specific situations for medicinal applications. (a million Timothy 5:23) relating to oil, in Elijah’s day the widow of Zarephath, poor as she replaced into, nevertheless had some oil left with which to cook dinner her final flour. (a million Kings 17:12) hence, the command “do no longer harm the olive oil and the wine” seems to be advice to no longer deplete those ordinary commodities too at as quickly as yet to be sparing of their use. in any different case, they are going to be ‘harmed,’ it is, they're going to run out earlier the famine ends.

A question to precede a sermon. Hmmm. As much as I try to be a Christian, I want to ask you a question as a way of answering yours. Where in the Bible did you get those quotes? You first "paragraph" has two quotes. Can you tell me where they are? Your second paragraph is NOT from the Bible. Now, answer me this, if God is love, and the Bible does say "Vengeance is the Lords", and you say there is no love in revenge, then, is there an aspect to God that it NOT love?? And if "there is no love in violence", then can you tell me what Christ was feeling when he drove those traders from the temple. You may find, in answering the questions I posed to you, that you don't know God, or the Bible, or logic very well. Preaching you might like to do, but you surely don't know the subject matter of which you are trying to preach. God Bless you.

Well, he didn't say turn it back and forth and back and forth. He said turn the other cheek--once. What do you suppose He would have us do AFTER turning the other cheek? He never told us to be a doormat, NOR did he ever say we could not protect ourselves.
The Roman soldiers in the NT were told to CONTINUE to be soldiers. There is a difference in murder, and killing for self-defense or for the protection of one's own citizens. Most people with half a brain can draw that distiction.
It seems to me that the real Jesus was a lot smarter than than the one dimensional Tofu version

First World Trade Center bombing:
We turned the other cheek.
The American Embassy bombings in three different countries:
We turned the other cheek.
The USS Cole bombing:
We turned the other cheek.
9/11 - the murder of 2704 American citizens and an additional 115 foreign workers and visitors:
Sorry, we're all out of cheeks.
This time we turn the tables.

I am a Christian but that is one standard that Jesus could practice, but I am a mortal and so far have been unable to accomplish that. Hey, I don't even TRUST my enemies, so how can I love them?

Actually, I learned today that someone had threatened to do me harm. I don't hate him and will still treat him as a friend.
I believe that carrying a grudge or plotting revenge is a huge burden to carry. Get rid of it and you'll feel much lighter.

We turned the other cheek. The Bible doesn't say what to do after that. Tell me, what if we had adopted that type of thinking in WWII? Think about it.
