Okay, this time of year I keep a horrible sinus infection and cold and all the good stuff. Well luckily nothing has really bothered me yet but since the beginnins of last week my right ear was hurting me. It wasn't like a normal earache it was deep inside my ear and it was a pounding pain and it came and went and it's still doing that, today in nursing class it was killing me. THEN since day before yesturday you know when you have a real bad cold or etc and you breathe in and it burns and hurts your lungs, well I was doing that but it wasn't in my chest it was on my sides where my rib cage is and it's still doing it, even when I cough. My throat is hurting but not like streap throat, it just is sensitive, and my sinisus are burning but I have no drainage. Then I kept a low-grade fever through out the day and I'm just confused, should I go to the doctor. I feel pretty crappy but I don't know what I should do here.

if you start losing your balance and get so dizzy you wanna throw up, it's an inner ear infection and GET HELP!
If it's a middle ear infection, try echinacea. It should help aleviate the pressure on your sinuses too. When you lie down at night, keep the sore ear up, and the good ear down. Drink lots of water. For pain management, take advil for migraines, if you are not allergic to it. That stuff is like a miracle in a bottle. If the fever lasts more than 3 days, go see a doctor. If it goes over 103*F, go see a doctor.

Oh do I feel your pain! I have been going through this same thing for the last week. It's horrible!

I gave in and went to the dr -- she prescribed me the five-day Z-pack antibiotic, which did nothing. Honestly, the only thing that helped was Robitussin (the active ingredient, guiafenesin, thins mucus), megadoses of motrin (NOT on an empty stomach), lots of water (to keep yourself hydrated since all your fluids are leaving in the form of mucus) and sinus decongestant (the real stuff, that you have to ask for behind the counter now.)

In a few moments of desperation, I also used Afrin (sinus spray), but be careful -- overuse will make the problem worse.

I also got some relief by making the shower as hot as I could stand it, and shooting the hot shower massage right at my sinuses. Actually, this may have been the most helpful thing I did.

Five days later, I am on the mend -- it's more like a rotten cold now.

Hope this helps -- hang in there!

i started out like you not only two days ago. i went to the store and got some Sucrets complete and today all i have is a severe cold no more throat problems. my sinuses were burning yesterday so i took some benadryl and i have been taking it every 4-6 hours and i have been fine. the drainage will come and it sucks when it does but whatever you do keep alot of puffs plus lotion around because your nose will kill you if you dont use something with lotion in it. trust me. dont go to the doctor if you dont have to. and be aware of your allergies.
