As the old saying goes: "the pen is mightier than the sword." Many women wrote books and essays that were very effective. Uncle Tom's Cabin probably did more for the abolishinists cause than any other singular event. Women were also instrumental in influencing the churches and legislatures eventhough they did not have the right to vote. Women were of immeasurable help in facilitating the underground railroad. Their "role" was too great to be calculated.

Speaking only for the white women among my ancestors, they worked along with black women to run the underground railroad that helped fugitive slaves escape from the South during pre civil war days.

This question is too nebulous... do you mean BLACK women, or WHITE women or any women? And, at what time period? Do you mean prior to the Civil War on since the civil war.

black women were and are strong in morals. they stayed strong and put that in their kids. their kids did the same. on and on until today.
