i do not think there IS a better PLACE to take notes except for IN CLASS!!!!!

If you own the textbook, that's a good place. Only time and more experience will tell whether a laptop computer is any better than a plain old notebook. At home when you read the material before class. During class. At home when you review the material and do homework that uses the knowledge. Less obvious: try them all and find out what works best for you. People learn in different ways.

If you're talking about taking notes in a classroom then i would say somewhere in front of the classroom, where it's easier to see the teacher and easier to pay attention when taking notes.

Listen to what the teacher puts emphasis on. Print your notes before class, and always re-read them after class.
