I am a returning student, who was very into art as a child, but was forced by family members to not pursue it. Back then I wanted to obtain a BFA, but now I do not have the confidence to do so since I have not developed my skills all these years. So I think I will take the path of Art History. Even though it is mainly for self satisfaction, any ideas on what I can do with this degree job wise?

I have a BA and and MA in Art History and I work as a Collections Manager./ Registrar. To get a museum job you pretty much have to have a MA at least, a PhD is usually preferred. If you want to be a curator you usually need to master at least two foreign languages unless you are specializing in American or Contemporary Art. Just be prepared that it's a lot of work for very little money so it has to be your passion. It can also be quite a challenge to get your first job. I don't mean to be discouraging, just an honest answer from someone who has been there.
Good luck!

A tough one, but your best bet would be of course teaching art history or working in an art gallery or museum...

Don't let family members squash your dreams though. If you want to be an artist, be one! Draw & paint. Develop your skills. Even if you don't take it in school, you can always do it at home. It's a beautiful hobby if nothing else! & who knows, you might be the next Van Gogh...

I'm an art history major, too.

Depending on what degree you get. You'll be limited if you only get your Bachelor's, but I'm sure there's something perhaps with museum work.

Best is to go on to obtain your master's or higher. You could teach art history to college students, work for an art magazine, work for a museum... there are probably a lot of options...at least I hope so! ^_~

Art Museum Curator among others. However, be prepared to go for a PhD if you want to be able to make a good living at it.
