I just bought 2 male, 3 month old hamsters as pets, and thought they may want companionship or be playmates, but all I read and hear says they need to be alone...
Should I take one back to the store?
I have a 2 week option of taking 1 back...

I don't think it is a good idea to have them in the same cage, cause of the dominant issue that all males have. It would be best to have a male and a female living together. It is just nature taking course when the dominant thing happens and you will not be able to control it unless they live separately.

What type of hamsters are they? Two dwarf males from the same litter will do really well together, and SHOULD be kept in together.

Two Syrian hamsters (golden hamsters, or teddy bear hamsters) will eventually start to fight. They are solitary creatures, and will get very territorial, and will fight with one another- often to the death.

Good luck!

Seperate them. Hamsters get aggressive as they get older. They are also very selfish and cranky. I just recently got a female hamster and I also wanted 2 in the same cage but the sales person told me that I have to keep them seperated. I have noticed that my hamster is more aggressive and she bites when she is cranky.

Yes two males or 2 females but never a male and a female that equals a million hamsters

males can often live together with no problems. females are much more vicious to one another. keep a close eye on them and see how they work out. don't let them fight though, that's just mean

The only danger I know of is that one will eat the other one.... I know mice will do this if they aren't the same age exactly.... one day different and that is it.... You could either take one back, see how it goes or get another cage.... Good luck...

Male hamsters will fight until one is dead. And then you'll be out the cost of the dead one.

I'm not sure that you shouldn't also ask other hamsters their opinions too- they might have moral and religious objections to two male hamsters living together....
