What will help keep her from becoming discouraged as she recovers and comes to terms with the fact that she will no longer be able to do most of the things she loves, in the same way? I don't think she will be confined to a wheelchair, but her speed and maneouverability will be hampered.

First of all, be there for her. Try to include her in as many activities as you can. Drop by & bring her lunch or dinner. I don't know the extent of her injuries, but a hobby is a good way to keep someone busy. I like to scrapbook or crotchet. Everyone loves a good book. (Harry Potter books & The Notebook by Nicholas Sparks are my favorite)

Spending time with her would be the best thing you could do for her , then you can encourage her to get back into the swing of living .
Play cards or board games . Sometimes just reading spirit lifting books is a good idea . Read to her !!! Show her you think that she is worth your time !

offer to pay for a few of her physical therapy sessions. i'm sure she's stressing about all the medical bills that are piling up since the accident. but she needs to go to physical therapy if she is ever going to regain mobility. so help her do that.
