i lived out there from 1983-1988. austin is beautiful!! the hills and the lakes, natural springs and parks. austin is also the live music capital...great for soemeone like me who digs different forms of music!!! an amazing club scene for partying. austin pretty much has it all. the relaxation, the tourist attractions, the big city-partying life. i would definitely recommend the place. as far as cost of living, like the other person said...houston is cheaper. i live there now.

I live in north austin which right now is a nightmare because there is construction of 3 major highways going through right now. but Austin itself is a pretty cool place.I was from Virginia and I sure dont miss the winters or the humidity- Texans think its humid here- but they have obviously never lived where it really is humid. Downtown austin is cool, lots of night-scene and there are two lakes that are easily accesible and popular.
Over all I would say great town to live in- but I sure do miss Real trees like on the east coast. The trees here only get about 15 feet tall at most.

I am a life long resident, I would recommend it. There are many clubs and live music of all kinds, many festivals and concerts, lots of universities and collages, large tech companies, 2 lakes, large hike and bike trails and its in the center of Texas almost,
You can take a trip to the coast, Houston, Dallas and Mexico in 4 hours or surrounding states in 9 hours. Apartments can run for $450 and up it just depends on which side you stay E,W,N,S.

Great college town, great shopping, wonderfully friendly people & it's not as expensive as thousands of less attractive places!
If I wasn't such a snob about living beachside, Austin would be among my favorites!
